Juliette: It’s time to go

Juliette - Grimm - Blonde AmbitionJuliette Silverton is Nick Burkhardt’s girlfriend/almost fiancée on Grimm. Whoever wrote her part in “Blonde Ambition” certainly doesn’t like her.

As someone who’s quite fond of Juliette most of the time, I was unbelievably disappointed to see her act so irrational, immature, and unlikeable in the Grimm season three finale.

(1) A crazy hexenbeist pretended to be Juliette and slept with Nick. What does Juliette do? She gets mad at Nick.

(2) In reaction to the news that the crazy hexenbeist has in effect raped Nick, Juliette decides that’s the time to tell him she just doesn’t know if she can handle him being a Grimm.

(3) Captain Renard called Juliette and in a very reasonable tone asked to discuss issues that were very pertinent to both their lives, but because she’d talked to the crazy hexenbeist first, she goes off on him and hangs up on him. Because, you know, the crazy hexenbeist told Juliette Sean was crazy. Even though crazy hexenbeist girl (Adelind) is crazy.

Frankly, at the moment, I just hope Juliette leaves Nick, and Portland, and doesn’t look back, because right now, I don’t like her.

Teen Wolf’s Season Ender Still Has Me Puzzled

If you haven’t watched the season finale of Teen Wolf: WARNING, there are spoilers ahead.

I’m puzzled. Not about the show, although that last scene raised my eyebrows as I had a half-second flash of What? Was it all a dream? before my brain caught up and I realized that probably wasn’t what was happening at all.

No, I’m puzzled about how I feel about it all. I don’t know. I kind of expected something better. The little bardo thing felt kind of, uh, lame? I don’t know. I wasn’t thrilled with it, I guess. I had seriously hoped Scott was going to show he had some more hidden cleverness tucked away in his brain somewhere. I adore poor Scott but it’s pretty clear he isn’t much more than a bleeding heart without his friends. Maybe I just need to watch it again—but I don’t feel like it. Not right now anyway.

So, some thoughts

Danny knowing about werewolves. Cute. Maybe too cute.

Scott’s dad sticking around, possibly. I’m good with that.

Isaac not returning (picked that up from an interview, not from the season ending episode). Eh, ambivalent. I can see why the character might choose to stay away, so I’m sure it will work fine for the show. But I’m going to seriously miss Isaac. He brought a lot of humor to the show!

Derek … getting shot?! No!!! Typically, the end of season cliffhangers haven’t been that big and this one is going to torture me all spring, until the show returns in late June. Argh!

On the other hand, I can see Kate’s return as something quite interesting, although without Allison there, I’m not sure it’ll be more than Ooh, goody, a strong villainess!

And if Derek dies, well, I’m gonna bail. That sounds mean, but there are a few characters on this show that if they died, I don’t think I’d care how it was handled, I’d quit watching. Of course, the show runners can do what they want, so I’m not saying this for any other reason than that it just wouldn’t be the same for me and I admit, I tend to lose faith in shows quickly when too many changes happen too quickly.

My list of no-go characters on Teen Wolf

  • Scott McCall (of course!)
  • Stiles Stilinski
  • Sheriff Stilinski
  • Melissa McCall
  • Derek Hale (gotta have at least one born werewolf and he’s my pick)

I’ll miss many others if they depart, but I’d live, and I’d keep watching. (I lived through Jackson’s departure, and I’m accepting of Allison’s death, and those were huge, as far as I’m concerned.) :D

Get rid of any of those people above, and I’d have to think long and hard before I’d be even possibly interested in keeping up with the show.

Any thoughts?

Teen Wolf: I Saw It Coming and I Still Flinched

Who didn’t see the end of Teen Wolf’s “Silverfinger” coming? Who watched it and still screamed out at the TV like the girl that she is?

That’d be me.

I’m spoiling the episode below so if you don’t want to be spoiled, don’t read on.

Here’s a description of the episode “Silverfinger” just so you have a little eye-room before I spill the goods.

Scott’s friends pledge to protect him against him against an increasingly hostile enemy while Argent, Isaac and Allison search for answers through an old adversary from the Japanese Yakuza. At the same time, Stiles enlists Melissa’s help in figuring out exactly what’s going on with him.

Stiles in the HospitalIn an awesome display of incredible acting, Dylan O’Brien completely sold me on Stiles’ possession by a cold-eyed demon/spirit. Honestly, I knew he was a good actor, but the scene really blew me away. It’s no wonder his career seems to be heating up. The guy can act.

What a great boon to Teen Wolf.

I loved the episode for several reasons, but this last scene—this was the kicker. I’m salivating for the next episode, so I know someone did their job.

Teen Wolf is still a fantastic series. I hope this thing goes on for years.

The Heart is a Lonely Hunter from Once Upon a Time

The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is one Once Upon a Time episode that you really can’t afford to miss.

Two major events happened.

These events deserve a spoiler notice so you don’t have the episode ruined for you if you don’t like knowing what happened in an episode before you’ve had a chance to watch it.

Needless to say, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is a special episode for these two very important and as yet unnamed reasons.

Spoilers below so don’t read on if you don’t want to know what happened in this episode of Once Upon a Time.

Seriously.

This is major spoilage.

Okay, you asked for it.

  1. Graham was revealed as The Huntsman when his memories of his past life came back.
  2. Graham died.

Of course Graham died. As soon as I realized his memories were returning and not likely to disappear because of some convenient something or other, I knew Graham was a goner. I had to convince the kiddies of that before it happened so that they could brace themselves.

I hate that this happened, because I actually really enjoyed the chemistry between him and Emma. But… the dramatic impact of his death was significant and well played. This episode will stand out as one of the truly excellent episodes of the season.

Both my son and daughter are very into this show though, and since it also makes the adult in me happy too, I have to say Once Upon a Time is one of my favorite TV shows to come along in a very long time. It fits into that place in my life occupied by shows like Eureka and Warehouse 13. Young enough to be safe for family viewing, fun enough to actually keep my family watching!

R.I.P. Sheriff. You will be missed.

What’s Coming to Sanctuary this Fall?

Sanctuary returns in a few months, so I thought I would catch up with the only two episodes of season two I hadn’t yet seen. Kali Part 1 and Kali Part 2 were a pair of episodes well worth watching back to back. I wish I had waited just a little longer though because the cliffhanger means I have to wait until the show returns before I find out what happens!

Syfy's Header for Sanctuary - Does it mean Ashley is returning? I have several questions about the new season.

Are we going to see Ashley again? That’s the main question on my mind after seeing this image on the Syfy’s Sanctuary website. Otherwise, what’s the purpose of this promo for the new Fall 2010 season having Ashley Magnus on it, but to tease and taunt us fans?

Will we see more of Ravi? I really enjoyed him and the flirty moments between him and Kate. They could have something much more interesting than Kate has had so far with any of the other guys on the show. I’m still waiting for Henry to find a girl I like, but if Ashley came back… that’s the girl I’d want for Will. Don’t know why I like them as a couple, but I certainly think each has something to teach the other. Of course, I have not heard a word about that happening, so it’s probably just wishful thinking on my part.

Back to Kali. Paul McGillion looked horrible in the episode. His makeup was not good, nor was his character. ;-) I liked his character though because his kind always make good villains. The makeup however, I never liked. I did like the way he moved his head. I thought those jerky little movements made him seem quite unhuman-like.

I liked the way the episodes went, and I thought it was interesting to watch Magnus squirm. Terrance was completely correct in that she would not have stood for any other Sanctuary leader to do as she did. I also think she might be realizing finally what she’s set in motion by not maintaining some kind of ultimate authority over the other Sanctuaries. One or two power hungry people and you end up with a mutiny on your hands!

All in all, I’m getting excited about the return of the series. Can hardly wait. :) What about you?

Veritas Tricky Sanctuary

Click here to watch Sanctuary episodes online.

My attempt at a joke might have backfired on me, but if you got it, thank you veritas much for getting it! ;)

When I started watching this episode tonight (I am always behind it seems—only one more reason to be forever grateful to the inventor of the DVR), I had high hopes something was up. Big Guy dead? So soon after Ashley’s apparent demise? My first reaction was that someone was interested in shaking things up on Sanctuary a little too much for my liking, but then of course, the episode started moving quite quickly and I couldn’t relax enough to worry about what the hell the writers of Sanctuary were thinking by killing off Big Guy.

Good thing the writer’s know better than I how to craft a crafty story. I enjoyed the mystery of this one, and for a while, I admit to being confused and most definitely off the trail. I figured things out just a hair before Will, and I enjoyed every tricky moment of it.

Sanctuary – Season 2 Starts off Strong, Maybe Too Strong For Me

I’m not a wimp (most of the time) but I do prefer TV shows that don’t encourage me to be overly emotional or that work me up into a tizzy. However, it seems more and more of my favorites and turning to drama as a way to intensify their episodes.

Sanctuary has never been a drama free show, for sure, but the beginning of season two has added in all kinds of new drama to the first few episodes.

I got a late start watching, for several reasons, the most disruptive being a dead DVR and hours of unwatched TV episodes. That was a good day from drama, for sure, but it left me without a taste for more.

When I finally got to catch up with my faves, I find out Ashley just might be dead. Talk about a mood killer. Sanctuary seemed so promising and then… that.

Ugh.

I’m sure I’m not alone in my disappointment. I won’t say I’m abandoning the show, because I’m really hoping for a great payoff at a later date. I’m also hoping that by the time I realize it isn’t going to happen, I will have finally gotten over her death so that I can still enjoy the show. :) I know, I don’t always make a lot of sense. But there you go. What do you think?

Fifth Season of Doctor Who in 2010

Okay, okay, so maybe they’ve got another season in the works after all. Reports are showing up everywhere now that say that Doctor Who will return in 2010 with a full fifth season. News reports that Russell T. Davies will be replaced as head writer and executive producer this time by Steven Moffat.

Now we’ll have to see if David Tennant (who has played the main character of the show for the past three seasons) will return. I didn’t really like him much that first part of the first season he was in, but I can’t imagine anyone else playing the Doctor now. I sure hope he decides to do it!

Doctor Who gone until 2010!?!

Anyone else think that the way they tied up Doctor Who this season was a ‘just in case we don’t come back’ kiss off? I’m a huge fan of the show, but recently, I’ve felt as if they’ve rushed things to come to the end. Everything you read says that they’ll be back, but will they? Really? A two year hiatus is a long time for a show. What happens to the fans between now and then?

If you watched the two part season finale, you know they’ve now pretty much tied up all the loose ends. If they do come back it will all be fresh. They’ve obliterated (yet again) the Dalek. The Doctor left a duplicate of himself for Rose–who once again is tied off in a parallel dimension–so that she won’t miss him or whatever any more. It seems to have signaled an end to her being on the show ever again. Unless some new phenomenon happens to open the gaps between the dimensions. Donna can’t ever remember the Doctor or anything about her time with him or she’ll go loony and die. So where does that leave everything? At an end or they’ve run out of ideas, in my opinion…but we’ll see.

There is the 2008 Christmas special due to air this December. In it, we’ll see the return of the Cybermen (of the design of the parallel universe’s Cybus Industries Cybermen). There will be a new mutant Cyberman called Cybershade who will be on Earth in Victorian England (supposedly set on Christmas Eve 1851). This might be interesting. It might prove me wrong. I’m interested to find out who will be in this special before I comment.

One good thing about the finale shows I guess is that Martha can now join Jack on Torchwood. So can Mickey, for that matter. Torchwood’s show has two openings after their season finale, one for a doctor (oh, look, Martha’s a doctor, LOL!) and a techie (which Mickey can do too!). It’ll be interesting to see if they do make a transition on to that show. I’ll be watching.
